Social Studies
The kindergarten social studies curriculum is oriented toward the family and the neighborhood, social relationships, and what might be called civic responsibilities. The social studies curriculum is also intended to give children the basis for interacting with and understanding people of other cultures, as well as the foundation for later studies in history and geography. The goal for our students is to:
* Become familiar with such principles of citizenship as being responsible for their own actions, helping to make group decisions, sharing and respecting others.
* Strategies for conflict resolution.
* To understand and apply roles and rules in a community (school, home and community).
* Understand and appreciate the different kinds of families that exist (two parents, a single parent, step-parent…)
* Understand and appreciate the differences and the similarities between their families and the families in other cultures.
Kindergarten Social Studies Topics:

Science
In kindergarten the scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations. To help the children understand the concepts we model and practice how to ask questions and perform investigations with “hands on” activities. Using the investigation and experimentation methods students will:
* Observe common objects by using the five senses.
* Describe the properties of common objects.
* Describe the relative position of objects by using one reference (e.g., above or below).
* Communicate observations orally and through drawings.
